‘the ecobee is displaying the wrong room temperature no way is it 69 in here right now’ But when everything is working, I am able to keep the printer settings on auto-select from the computer, and it prints to the correct tray.Ironically yesterday my wife and a reader had the same question on the exact same day prompting this really quick post about your ecobee3 and the temperature that it displays. After doing so, the printer was eventually able to print to tray 3 again.ĭoes the M452 have no auto-detect on the trays for paper sizes? I set them up manually on the printer. I removed and reseated Tray 3 several times, and I tried cleaning it a few times as well. I didn't try a configuration page, but I did try a demo and cleaning page, and it would not go to Tray 3. I pulled all the paper out of Tray 2, and it still wouldn't print to Tray 3.
I suggest that if you are not already using, download the HP Universal Printer Driver. Being a "pro" model printer the M452 has no auto-detect on the trays for paper sizes. Likely your user has programs or documents that are hard coded to print from tray 2 and that is where the problem is. If it does not print from tray 3 then either the tray is bad or the printer is confused. If the printer prints from tray 3 with no errors, 99% you do not have a problem with the printer. Make sure tray 3 is set for plain letter (paper type is as important as paper size) Then print the configuration page from the control panel.
Should I just order another one and see if that helps? Or can this still be an issue with the actual printer and not the media tray/feeder?Įasiest way to determine if tray 3 is working or not is to load tray 3 with plain paper and take all paper out of tray 2 and the manual tray (tray 1).
The printer showed there was a "paper jam in Tray 3" (there was no jam, I was just printing on it). So I reseated printer on the media tray/feeder a few times. I removed that tray/feeder, and cleaned out the connectors. Nope, it would still print to Tray 2.įrom the computer > Printer Properties, I was able to see that it said Tray 3 was installed for the printer. I took all the paper out of Tray 2 to see if it would print to Tray 3. It was only printing to Tray 2 (legal size). It is not printing to Tray 3 (letter sizes). Because I tested it again, and the user was right. So I think it might be the HP media tray / feeder (Tray 3), not the actual printer. I tried to see if there was a way to delete this tray, but I saw nothing. I have no idea why the printer itself has options to select the paper style/size for this tray when it doesn't even use paper. Is there a way to disable Tray 1 so nothing recognizes it as a paper tray? I think this might be part of the issue. I still feel part of this issue is that the printer and/or computer think Tray 1 is a paper tray when it is not. That way he doesn't have to remember which tray to select. So I think it is best to try and find out a way to get the auto-select to work for the printer tray settings. It was working while I was with him, but he's still telling me he is getting the "load tray 1" message, and standard documents are printing to the legal tray. So he is likely to forget to select the incorrect tray.
He uses a lot of different software and deals with a lot of other users. That way it will print everything to Tray 3 and he can manually select Tray 2 for his legal documents. I was able to make the issue a little better by changing the printer default to print to Tray 3 instead of "auto-select". It allows to selection options for Tray 1 as well, which I thought was weird because it is not a paper tray. And I made sure Tray 3 was set to 8.5x11. And I made sure Tray 2 was set to Legal Paper. I double checked the printer settings in the printer. He will get the "Load Tray 1 with Paper" message (on the printer), presses ok (on the printer) and it will then sometimes print standard 8x11 documents to Tray 2 (legal paper). He says the computer and printer used to auto-select which paper to use (Legal Paper from Tray 2 or Standard Paper from Tray 3) and he never had to manually choose which one to print on. It will also print to the wrong paper trays (Tray 2 is for legal paper, Tray 3 is for standard 8.5x11 paper). He always gets a message on the printer that says "Please load Tray 1 with Paper".
